Summer Muse: Joan Didion
A few summers ago, I picked up a tattered and yellow paged copy of The White Album from my father’s book shelf. I had read Joan Didion’s raw and devestating memoir, The Year of Magical Thinking a few years back, but didn’t know much about her older works. The book is a compilation of essays about the decade defining pop culture events of the 60s in southern California. Didion covered the Manson trials, sat in on recording sessions for The Doors, and escaped on sojourns to Bogota. Her bohemian chic style was effortless, and while I don’t think she cared so much about fashion, she certainly had that southern California hippie allure. She began her literary career at American Vogue, after all. I’ll be channeling a 60s Joan Didion this summer in Alice Ritter’s prairie dress, Tucker’s flowy skirt and Mara Hoffman’s boho tunic.

Lace is an eternal wardrobe staple. It’s whimsy, romantic and utterly feminine, and we at Les Nouvelles can’t get enough of it for spring! As Seen In: Alice Ritter in LUCKY
I visit All the Pretty Birds daily for street style inspiration. Tamu, the lovely, Milan based shutterbug behind the blog has a knack for capturing utterly chic women who are oozing with joie de vivre. I loved seeing her profile in last month’s lucky as Tamu herself has such inimitable style and isn’t afraid to experiment with color, prints and interesting layers. Of course she selected Alice Ritter as one of her go to designers (below). Ritter’s chic and playful Parisian designs beg to be shot on the street.

Snapped this pic of Alice Ritter’s Spring 2011 inspiration board last fall while we were viewing the collection in her showroom. I was struck by how fresh, simple and directional it was. No abstract or obscure references, but just chic, confident and sophisticated women and lots of great color. That’s why we love Alice. Her designs are utterly wearable, unfussy and absolutely lovely. Fashion Week Recap
We’ve been so rotten about sending you updates from Fashion Week. Our plan to post daily reports was selfishly derailed by…well, wine. And delirium. It’s been a complete whirlwind of shows, presentations, showroom appointments, and then evenings of celebrating said shows, presentations and showroom appointments. As we tend to love EVERYTHING we see from our super chic and talented roster of designers, we’re already dreading the editing process which entails massive picture boards of the clothing and accessories divided into categories and trends in order to curate a well rounded and fresh selection of effortless, versatile and unexpected pieces. All so you can have a pleasant and fulfilling shopping experience.
