Lego my Alex & Eli!

Alex & Eli’s spring collection is like fashion Legos. Everything effortlessly snaps together! The striped tunic pairs perfectly with the slinky shorts, and the studded tank can be layered over the cherry slip dress and topped off with boxy topper….or the shorts cinched over the tank with the topper…or the tunic layered under the topper! Brilliant, yet hardly surprising when you take into account the labels’ genius designers. Parsons grads, Anna and Aja, continue to create cohesive and sophisticated collections that manage to break through the fashion clutter. Their quality and attention to detail is in line with RTW designers twice their price point, and their fashion point of view is refreshing and utterly wearable.

Here are a few images from their spring presentation. In keeping with the understated Studio 54 theme of the collection, it was  hosted in an abandoned 70s sex club on a shady stretch of 11th Avenue complete with a brass champagne fountain and a DJ spinning in a drained Grecian pool. Weird and wonderful!

Mid-Century Modern

Want to channel Joan Holloway’s sexy 60′s secretary style without looking like you’ve been digging through the vintage bins for a poly-blend, moth eaten replica? Try pouring yourself into Alex & Eli’s sleek tweed pencil skirt. It’s a fresh and modern way to “do Mad Men.” And you don’t need Ms. Holloway’s…ahem, rack, to pull off the look. Pair with a simple Kain tank and a bold Meredith Wendell belt and voila – you’re martini ready!

PS – This skirt is on SALE! Don Draper not included.

Suit Yourself in Alex & Eli

look2look8

When did all the Bright Young Things abandon the suit? Tailored blazers and sleek pencil skirts get lots of love, but they are often styled separately with boyfriend jeans and a burn out tee. Gone are the days of the power suit – when the bigger the shoulder meant the bolder the woman. As office dress codes have simmered and stylish women have proven that they can be just as productive as their male counterparts sans the restrictive attire; the suit has quietly moved to the back of the closet. Or so we thought…

Enter Aja and Anna, two recent Parsons grads who recognized the lack of sophisticated suiting in the advanced contemporary market and had the spot on vision and talent to give it a major comeback. ALEX & ELI, their genius label, is suiting for women who don’t wear suits. Their chic pieces are constructed with clever details and have just enough masculine touches to give you a total power trip. Best of all, the pieces are just as stunning worn separately as together…say with boyfriend jeans or a burn out tee.
