Cacharel
Founded in 1962 by the 30-year-old Jean Bousquet, Cacharel is named after a bird from Camargue (a region of Southern France). Since the very beginning, Jean Bousquet aimed at creating a strong international brand identity, through iconic products with high fashion value combined with a totally new use of the emerging media. His extremely coherent global advertising strategy was unique at that time. Jean Bousquet and Cacharel brought forward products that installed strong codes for the brand: the shirt for woman, the Liberty and the crepon fabrics quickly became must-haves in ready-to-wear. After the success of the crepon fabric which released the woman's body in the 60's, influence from the hippy movement brought Romanticism as illustrated by the Liberty, a clean cotton fabric for fresh well-behaved children with little flowers in soft watercolor hues. In the early 1970s, Liberty became the symbol of an entire generation. Liberty blouses, dresses, and skirts appeared, as it was a great success for Cacharel. A vintage Liberty collection, based on Cacharel archives, was released for the Spring/Summer 2009 season to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Cacharel.
